Proton recalls Gen-2 family cars

06 July 2005

Proton is recalling more than 1600 of its Gen-2 small family cars to perform checks on the battery.

Proton is contacting owners of 1631 Gen-2 models

Proton is recalling more than 1600 of its Gen-2 small family cars to perform checks on the battery.

The manufacturer has found that the battery harness might not be tight enough in some cars, allowing the battery to move and potentially wear away insulation material and expose wiring. This could in turn create sparks within the engine bay.

Proton is contacting the owners of 1631 cars with the offer of free checks and remedial work. It said there had been no accidents or injuries recorded as a result of the potential defect.

If Gen-2 owners are concerned, they should contact their local dealer.
