2013 Skoda Octavia vRS revealed
- Hatch and estate version of fast Octavia
- Makes its debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed in July
- 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds, top speed of 154mph
The 2013 Skoda Octavia vRS has been revealed ahead of its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month.
Skoda's fast version of its family car will come with a choice of two engines; a 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel from the VW Golf GTD and a 217bhp 2.0-litre petrol from the Golf GTI – the latter making it the fastest production vRS yet, with a top speed of 154mph.
The petrol-powered car manages the 0-62mph sprint in 6.8 seconds, while the diesel takes 8.1 seconds and has a top speed of 144mph. These figures were measured with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, while an optional six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox is also available on both engines.
It comes in hatch and estate bodystyles, with both getting sports suspension as standard – the hatch sits 12mm lower than the standard car, while the estate drops by 13mm.
An electronic differential lock comes as standard to reduce understeer, while the handling is enhanced by the electro-mechanical progressive steering system.
The vRS gets a selection of visual enhancements, including red brake calipers, a large black rear diffuser, twin trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes and a rear spoiler. There is a choice of four alloy wheel designs, ranging in size from 17- to 19-inches.
Inside, the vRS gets bespoke sport seats, a three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and sill plates. It also has vRS badges on the steering wheel, gearlever, door panels, seats and floor mats.
Prices will be confirmed closer to the car's Goodwood debut, but it's expected to cost around £22,500.
