Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing revealed
- Shows how a hot convertible could look
- 1.6 turbo engine produces 202bhp
- To be unveiled this weekend at Goodwood show
This is the Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing – a concept car that blends the performance of the DS3 Racing with the looks of the company's stylish convertible.
It's powered by the same turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine as the DS3 Racing hatchback, but is tuned to produce 202bhp in the Cabrio. There's no word on performance yet, but we'd expect a 0-62mph time of less than 7.0 seconds.
The concept car has a similarly racy look to the production hatchback, with matt grey paintwork as well as bright Carmine red accents in the front splitter and door stripes.
The bright red colour also appears on the brake callipers, wheel nuts and badging, and its black canvas roof is covered with the DS brand logo.
Chrome trim features on the door mirrors, handles and boot, while gloss black 19-inch alloys fill the wheelarches.
DS branding is applied liberally throughout the cabin – driver and passenger sit in embossed part-leather and Alcantara bucket seats, and Citroen has even extended the concept to a matching child seat.
The DS3 Racing hatchback does average economy of 44.1mpg and emits 149g/km of CO2, so the Cabrio version should record similar figures.
Citroen won't confirm whether the DS3 Cabrio Racing concept will make production, but a limited run of cars seems plausible. DS3 project director Francois Neveu told What Car? earlier this year: 'There’s no reason why we couldn't do it — it could make sense'.
The car will be unveiled on Citroen's stand at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed, although it won't be seen in action.
