Does Altea offer XL-ent adventure?
- Altea XL still only with five seats
- New car longer with more luggage space
- Car due in UK early next year
Seat has released the first details of the Altea XL - a slightly larger version of its small hatch-cum-MPV.
The new car is 18.7cm longer than the current car, but you won't find more seats in the XL – it’s still a five-seater.
The extra length does result in much greater boot space: 532 litres, up from 409 in the standard Altea; although the figure can be upped to 635 litres if you put the sliding rear seats as far forward as they’ll go.
This is the first car in the VW Group to receive the new 1.8-litre direct-injection turbo engine. Otherwise the engine range is unchanged, with a 168bhp 2.0-litre TDI unit topping the diesel engine selection.
Seat's stylists have also redesigned the Altea's rear. The new, horizontal rear lights are now split by the tailgate.
The XL will be shown at the Paris Motor Show next month and launched in the UK early next year. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but expect the XL to be around £500 more than the regular Altea.
