Going large with the Seat Altea XL

11 January 2007

A larger version of the Seat Altea, called the Altea XL, goes on sale today.

The car is 18.7cm longer than the standard Altea, which allows greater interior and boot space for families. Room in the boot increases to 532 litres, 123 litres more than the standard car's, and there's more room in the back seats, too. They can be moved back by 2cm more than in the Altea.

XL versions come with six engine options, including three diesels - a 104bhp 1.9-litre engine, and 138bhp and 168bhp 2.0-litre engines. The 138bhp unit is available with a six-speed manual or semi-automatic gearbox. There are three petrol engines, including 100bhp 1.6, 148bhp 2.0 and a new 158bhp 1.8 turbocharged unit.

Specification includes roof bars, air-conditioning, cruise control, radio CD with MP3 player, electric windows and six airbags. Stylance versions have dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, automatic wipers and front foglights.

The Altea XL is safe, too. It has a five-star rating for passenger protection and a three-star rating for pedestrian protection.
