Jaguar XF Sportbrake revealed
- Jaguar XF Sportbrake teaser
- Estate version of XF
- On sale in 2012
The Jaguar XF Sportbrake has been revealed on Jaguar’s Twitter page.
The XF Sportbrake is the long-rumoured estate version of the XF saloon and Jaguar has released a seasonal teaser image that gives a good idea of how it will look. The image shows a disguised prototype serving as Santa’s festive transport.
Jaguar has confirmed ongoing development of the Sportbrake, which is likely to be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March, before going on sale later in 2012.
The image shows the XF Sportbrake has a sloping roofline that means it’s not likely to match the bulkier Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate for outright capacity. We wouldn’t expect the XF Sportbrake to fall too far short of the Audi A6 Avant and BMW 5 Series Touring for space, however.
We’d expect a couple of tricks to make the most of the space available: the image shows what appears to be a switch for an electrically powered tailgate.
The XF Sportbrake’s engine range is likely to be the same as the saloon’s, including 2.2-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre V6 diesels. An XFR version - with a supercharged V8 petrol engine - is yet to be confirmed.
Jaguar hasn’t confirmed prices yet, but we’d expect a premium of at least £1000 over the saloon, so a starting point of around £32,000 is likely. Jaguar says more information will be available early next year.
