New Kia Rio: Prices and specs
- Kia Rio from £10,595
- 88.3mpg 1.1 diesel version
- Five-door on sale next week, three-door on sale next year
Kia's new Rio, will cost from £10,595 when it goes on sale next week.
The rival for the Volkswagen Polo comes with the choice of two petrol engines, two diesel engines and includes a 1.1 diesel EcoDynamics model that averages an impressive 88.3mpg.
There are four trim levels – 1, 1 Air, 2 and 3. Entry-level models come with electric front windows, 15-inch steel wheels, split-folding rear seats and a CD player with USB port. Only the entry-level diesel version misses out on Bluetooth. 1 Air adds air-conditioning for an £800 premium.
Mid-spec 2 comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, front foglights, electrically adjustable door mirrors, four electric windows and a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob.
Top-spec 3 gets 17-inch alloys, low-profile tyres, privacy glass, LED daytime running lights, climate control, automatic wipers and headlights, cruise control and heated front seats.
The petrol line-up consists of an 83bhp 1.25-litre engine and a 107bhp 1.4. With the 1.25-litre the Rio emits 114g/km of CO2 and averages 56.5mpg.
With the 1.4, the figures are 119g/km of CO2 and 51.4mpg.
The diesel options are a 1.1 CRDi and a 1.4 CRDi. Emissions and average fuel economy for 1.1 version vary depending on the trim level (see table below), while 1.4 CRDi versions emit 105g/km of CO2 and average 70.6mpg.
All versions come with Kia's seven-year warranty and customers can choose from two low-cost servicing packs. A three-year package costs £259, while a five-year one costs £499.
A three-door Rio will go on sale early next year, and just like the three-door Picanto, it will look sportier than the five-door.
