RAC has been named Breakdown and Recovery Company 2007 by the Institute of Transport Management (ITM).

The company was judged to 'offer quality motoring benefits with the highest levels of service throughout the UK and Europe'.

ITM made its decision after studying 'companies that have demonstrated an ability to respond effectively and professionally to the needs of the fleet manager'.

The RAC has recently introduced hand-held diagnostic scanners to assess a vehicle's state of repair in order to cut down waiting time.

In addition, it has started sending rapid-deployment trailers to breakdowns, which allow mechanics to work on cars at the roadside without having to call for back-up.
