The face-lifted Saab 9-5 saloon and estate arrives in showrooms this week, with prices starting at £21,051.

Buyers can chose from petrol, diesel, and, for the first time, bioethanol versions of the executive four-door and estate.

All three engines are turbocharged to maximise performance, while the environmentally friendly Biopower model reduces CO2 emissions by 70%, yet is 30% more powerful than the regular petrol models. It carries a premium of £600 over the petrol cars.

Saab claims the revised 9-5 has 1350 enhancements. In addition to a new nose, the model has a revamped interior, improvements to the chassis and some models have had engine revisions.

The rapid Aero 2.3 HOT gets a power increase to 260bhp, enabling it to sprint from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds.

Trim levels follow the rest of the Saab family with Linear Vector and Sport versions available. The range starts with the entry-level Linear 2.0t saloon at £21,051, while the same model as an estate costs £1200 more at £22,251.

Diesel models start at £21,505 in Linear spec for the saloon, with the estate version only costing an extra £600. The top-of-the-range Aero 2.3 Hot estate costs £29,536.
