Ultra-butch Chrysler 300C hits UK

10 August 2006

It's not quite a BMW M5, but at two-thirds of the price, the new Chrysler 300C SRT-8 offers a heap of performance for a not-so-huge pile of cash.

Based on Chrysler's distinctive 300C saloon, the SRT-8 has a 6.1-litre 419bhp V8 engine with 420lb ft of pull. That's enough for a 0-60mph time of 5.0sec and a top speed of 168mph.

There's more to the SRT-8 than just a big motor, however; it has been given a thorough makeover by Chrysler's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) division.

The SRT-8 uses special Brembo brakes and lowered, stiffened suspension. Up front, a unique bumper helps reduce drag and increase airflow to the engine and brakes.

The 300C SRT-8 is available now in right-hand drive for £39,040, but Chrysler said it only intends to bring only 'a small number' to the UK this year.
