Best City Car 2014: Hyundai i10 1.0 66 SE
Best Hyundai’s i10 used to be our favourite cheap city car; now the all-new version gets the gong at our middle price point, thanks to its more mature driving experience, grown-up cabin and the fact it has more space than anything else in the class.
IThe i10’s three-cylinder engine is a peach; it has enough performance, but stays remarkably quiet when you’re cruising around town, and it’s smooth when you do have to rev it harder.
The steering isn’t as sweet as the VW Up’s, but its lightness is well suited to busy city streets, and the slick gearshift helps you to make relaxed progress.
The cabin is the real star, though, with a smart finish, enough space for four adults and plenty of kit; you get air-con, four electric windows, electric heated door mirrors and remote central locking.
Throw in Hyundai’s five-year warranty and roadside assistance package, plus strong fuel economy, and you have an appealing city car that requires very few compromises .
