Best large SUV 2014: Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE
Land Rover may have shot itself in the foot with the latest Range Rover Sport, because it offers all the virtues of the full-size Range Rover, as well as a lower price and the option of two extra seats.
This HSE model is the cheapest version with the SDV6 diesel engine, but it's a long way from being the poor relation in the range, because it's stacked with kit. Keyless entry, a reversing camera, an electrically adjustable steering wheel, and even heated rear seats all come as standard.
Another area where the Sport beats its rivals is refinement. It's wonderfully hushed compared with competitors from the likes of BMW and Porsche, while the ride is smoother.
As if all that weren't enough, the Range Rover Sport has one of the best cabins in the class. The front seats are supportive, the driving position is spot on and all-round visibility is excellent, while three adults will appreciate the fact that they can sit in comfort in the rear seats.
