Citroen Grand C4 Picasso
Best MPV 2014: Citroen Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 e-HDi Exclusive
It was going to take something special to knock the Seat Alhambra off the top spot, and the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso is just that. Its brilliance is boosted by a smooth, efficient diesel engine, while the minimalistic dashboard uses classy materials, and standard kit includes sat-nav, Bluetooth and a DAB radio. Factor in relaxed driving manners and easy-folding seats, and the Grand C4 Picasso is the best MPV you can buy.
This price bracket in particular plays host to some fierce competition, including the Kia Carens and Vauxhall Zafira Tourer, yet the Citroen has managed to beat all of them.
The view from the driver's seat impressed us, with a windscreen that stretches up and over the front occupants. The dashboard is dominated by two colour screens, one of which does away with most switches and buttons, while the spacious middle row of seats will take three child seats.
Headroom in the rear two seats could be better, but they're comfortable and a cinch to fold away. In Exclusive trim the Grand C4 Picasso comes with six airbags, which includes full-length curtain 'bags, and stability control as standard; lane-departure warning, blindspot monitoring, and radar cruise control can be added as part of a pack. This 113bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine is powerful enough to haul a full load with ease, and it scores highly on emissions and economy.
