Anyone after a bargain should look no further than the Dacia Sandero. At £6595, our chosen model is one of the cheapest new cars on sale today. That it comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty only adds to its appeal. True, the finish inside is a little basic, but you get Bluetooth, electric windows and central locking.
The fact that the Sandero managed only a four-star Euro NCAP safety rating is disappointing. However standard safety equipment is competitive; it includes four airbags, emergency brake assist and stability control.
On the road the Sandero is competent, offering reasonable grip and excellent visibility. The ride is a little unsettled, and there's a fair amount of noise but it never grows unpleasant.
Where this car really excels, though, is practicality. There's loads of room for four, with excellent leg- and headroom, and one of the largest boots in the class.
