What Car? Awards 2013

Best fuel consumption

Kia

Winner, Best Fuel Consumption

Volkswagen Polo Hatchback

We're becoming used to seeing dramatic progress from Kia, but it’s still capable of making leaps that catch us out.

The latest Rio is a prime example; we’d expected gains in interior quality and refinement from the latest generation of the Korean brand’s Fiesta rival, but not an eco variant emitting just 85g/km of CO2 and returning more than 88mpg.
It’ll cost you £11,145.
That isn’t all. Kia models that were launched in the past year have the lowest average CO2 emissions of any launched in the past 12 months. Best of all, Kia’s engineers have managed to achieve these figures without resorting to expensive hybrid technology.
