Green Flag

Since its launch in 1971, Green Flag has grown into one of the UK’s leading breakdown recovery providers. It now comes to the rescue of 5 million drivers, 24 hours a day, all year round.  Green Flag began by offering a unique ‘get-you-home’ recovery service for stranded motorists, which was joined shortly afterwards by its roadside assistance service. The philosophy of the company was bold yet simple – Green Flag would give customers better value for money and work hard to provide a better quality of service. Innovation has been synonymous with the Green Flag brand and its ability to support stranded motorists at their time of need.  Among its achievements, Green Flag was the first assistance company to include recovery off the motorway, the first to open a fully computerised control centre with laser cartography mapping systems in 1985 and the first to introduce freephone calls for customers.

More recently, Green Flag continues to lead the way. It is the only organisation to offer a service pledge with £10 cash back given to customers if help is not received within the hour. The pledge is made regardless of time of day, weather or road conditions.  Green Flag also uses SMS text messaging as well as its popular iphone app Rescue Me to reach out to customers. With UK traffic updates and key driving advice, the app reinforces Green Flag’s commitment to offer the quickest possible recovery time to stranded motorists by allowing them to pin-point the precise location of their breakdown.  After viewing an on-screen location map, the motorist can speak to Green Flag at the tap of a button to explain exactly where they are and be reassured that help is on its way.

Partnerships with leading lights in the motoring and sporting worlds has long been a passion of the brand. In 1995, Green Flag became the first sponsor of the England Football team and guaranteed the name would become well known nationwide and beyond.  It has also sponsored motorsport including the British Touring Car Championship and most recently has appeared on the at&t William’s team cars and visors in Formula 1.

Green Flag differs from its main competitors by covering the vehicle, not the individual. This means anyone driving the vehicle is protected in the event of a breakdown.

Green Flag is proud to sponsor the Safety category in this year's roll call of prestigious What Car? awards.
