At this end of the market, there are offerings from long-established and revered names such as Ferrari and Lamborghini, but relative upstart McLaren trumps them all.
The 12C Spider has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces a full 616bhp, so the 0-62mph dash is dealt with in just 3.1 seconds. The top speed starts with a two, which tells you all you need to know.
What the numbers don't convey, though, is how easy the McLaren makes the process of going fast. Its steering is quick, but not too quick, its grip is unshakeable and the sheer suppleness of the ride is other-worldly.
The roof folds in seconds, even when you're moving, and there isn't even too much bluster. Top-down motoring allows you to enjoy the pops, crackles and bangs from the exhaust, although the McLaren can do laid-back quietness, too.
The interior is beautifully bespoke and superbly trimmed; all in all, the 12C Spider represents a phenomenal way to spend £200,000.
