Automatic gearbox - Any gearbox which changes gear for you. Most executive and luxury cars and big 4x4s come with auto gearboxes as standard, and these will be expected on the used market. Many now allow the driver to change gear manually, using the gearlever or buttons on the wheel. Economy usually suffers where an auto gearbox is in use. (See also CVT).
