F - Fuel cell

Fuel cell - These are catalytic devices which convert the energy stored in a fuel directly into electrical energy. Many major car manufacturers have built prototypes powered by hydrogen fuel cells. These super-clean vehicles emit nothing more harmful than water vapour.
However, it's likely to be many years before such cars become commonplace, as problems relating to hydrogen production, storage and distribution have yet to be solved. (See also Alternative fuels.)
