T - Trading Standards

05 June 2006

Trading Standards - Trading Standards officers are the champions of the consumer, making sure weights and measures in shops are correct and that consumers are treated fairly. Your local office is a great source of legal advice. Officers should be able to suggest steps to help resolve a dispute, or even send stern letters to dealers if they appear to be behaving in an unreasonable fashion.

The Trading Standards office is part of your local council, paid for through your council tax, and you can get the number from the council website or central offices. This means, however, that some are better funded and more effective than others.
