Warranties - Something you hope you'll never need. Most new cars come with a three-year warranty against mechanical defects and six years' protection against rusting, and some also have cover for paint defects.
Dealers can also sell you a warranty for older cars. Warranties mean any problems are put right at the maker's or dealer's expense, but there are often conditions to adhere to.
