Common-rail - In some diesel engines, fuel is delivered to all cylinders via a larger-diameter pipe with injectors for each cylinder, rather than individual pipes running to each one.

The advantage is that fuel can be delivered at higher pressure to allow greater atomisation in the cylinder, giving better mixing with air for a more efficient and cleaner combustion. The driver benefits from higher performance combined with impressive fuel consumption.
