Diesel - A less-refined product of crude oil than petrol. Diesel offers better fuel consumption than petrol and, in almost every case, lower carbon dioxide emissions, which means reduced company car tax bills. The Government levies a penalty on diesels in the company car scheme because it believes the greater amount of particulate and nitrous oxides emitted are harmful to health.
