Alfa Romeo has been busy preparing a new car thats good enough to compete against the BMW 3 Series. Latest images show the new Alfa Romeo Giulia Cloverleaf looks more than capable for the job. The Giulia will be released in 2011 and will be the successor to the 159 and follows Alfa Romeo recent design language first seen on the MiTo followed by the Giulietta. The new Giulia definitely upholds the Alfa Romeo tradition of building beautiful cars. The front of the Giulia features LED running lights inside the tear drop headlights and with the flared wheel arches, the Giulia has real road presence. The hot Cloverleaf features a road hugging body kit, 19 inch alloys and the Quadrifoglio Verde badge on the front wings.
Sources have revealed that a 4 wheel drive Giulia will be available in the future but for the time being we will have to settle for front wheel drive. Alfa Romeo will use a stretched version of the Giuliettas platform that will also feature on Alfas forthcoming SUVs. Alfa bosses are aiming for excellent balance between ride and handling, so much that they will introduce an Active Roll Control system that offers two modes to suit the driver with either comfort or agility. The active system will tighten the springs and dampers which will improve the Giulias handling further when cornering. The system will also have the ability to absorb bumps when driving in comfort mode too. To complete the package Alfa switchable DNA system that alters the steering weight and throttle response will also be available.
Alfa will keep the cost down and use owners Fiat latest MultiAir engine technology this will make them one of the most advanced in engine technology within the class. The Giulia will be powered by either a 1.4 litre turbo engine producing 118bhp or 168bhp or a 1750 TBi which produces 200bhp. Expect the biggest sellers in the UK to be the latest JTDm diesel engines with choices of power being either 104bhp to 200bhp. The top spec Giulia Cloverleaf will feature a modified 3.3 litre petrol engine with MultiAir technology that should push the 300bhp mark and with direct fuel injection which not only helps increase power but helps lower CO2 emissions too. With the 4 wheel drive options available in the future Alfa is aiming to make this hot model a direct rival for Audis S5. This is an important car for Alfa Romeo bosses as they hope to sell as many Giulias as they do MiTos and Giuliettas.
