Kia hopes to expand its GT range

As Kia releases the sporty hatchback pro_cee'd GT, it is not about to stop there and intends to add the performance and styling upgrades to other models.

It believes that having a full line-up of performance-oriented model will help to continue the manufacturer's impressive performance over the last five years, which has seen consecutive record sales.

A GT Sportage crossover is top of the list, as well as the Rio and Picanto. The Sportage is expected to arrive on the market within the next couple of years.

The GT range does not make up a huge volume of the UK Kia market, with the company only expecting to shift 500 to 750 pro_cee'd GT vehicles this year. However, it claims the performance cars have a halo effect on the brand.

"The pro_cee'd GT was driven by demand from Europe and with its arrival we are moving on to the next chapter in our history," says the company's UK president and CEO, Paul Philpott.

"In Europe, brands like ours are defined by their C-segment cars, and we now have a model which adds excitement to the range."
