New Mercedes Benz A Class to Compete with VW GolfMercedes-Benz Have plans to launch a New Hatchback that will compete against the VW Golf. BMW 1 Series and Audi A3. The New Mercedes Hatchback which is based on the new front wheel drive F800 concept which was revealed at this years Geneva motor Show. Mercedes hope they can start to attract some of the younger customers from their closest rivals. The replacement for the A-Class looks stunning and will take a big swing at the leading mark the Volkswagen Golf. Features that stand out on the New Mercedes Hatchback are the prominent Grille, LED day time running Lights, stylish lines. When the New Mercedes hatchback is released it will be available in 3dr and 5dr. The Hatchback range will feature petrol and diesel engines that should be super-efficient with stop-start. With the promise of a better-quality cabin than the Golf and increased comfort and safety, but this will be reflected in the price when the New Mercedes A-Class goes on sale in 2012. Marketing boss Dr Joachim Schmidt told Auto Express. “Our current A-Class will be replaced by a new platform with totally different cars defining a new segment for Mercedes.” Schmidt confirmed the new model would not resemble the current A-Class. “If you want young customers, you need to have a brand that is sexy and sporty,” explained Schmidt. “The reason we didnt get this customer before was, in my opinion, not a brand issue, but a product issue.” Mercedes is also planning to go up against the Audi A1 and BMW Supermini but this car will be badged up under Mercedes-Benz Smart family which will replace the unsuccessful four-door, four-seater ForFour. The new range aims to lower the average age of Mercedes customers without alienating older customers.
