The new Mercedes Benz B-Class looks much sleeker than the previous model it will replace, this is down to the latest design language which was introduced to the latest Mercedes CLS four-door coupe. Mercedes design team has given the new B-Class a more steeply raked roofline which makes it look much sportier than before.
The interior features SLS-style metal air vents and the trim can be finished off in a choice of wood or metal. A large Apple iPad like screen is available in either 15cm or 17cm sits above the centre console which both passenger and driver can use to control the COMAND media interface. The colour screen enables passengers to access Internet via their 3G phone connection.
The new Mercedes Benz B-Class comes with an extensive range of gadgets and some of these have been selected from other models within the Mercedes range. These include a radar-guided cruise control with fatigue sensors, advanced braking system which performs an emergency stop if it senses an imminent collision and high spec models get heated leather seats as standard.
Mercedes Benz have spent a lot of time on improving refinement and agility of the new B-Class. Mercedes have achieved this by lowering the centre of gravity by 30mm and the new rear multi-link suspension configuration will help improve handling and ride quality too. Buyers can also choose a Sport package, which lowers the suspension and makes the steering more responsive.
The new Mercedes Benz B-Class will be fitted with a 1.8 litre CDi engine which comes in a choice of either 107bhp or 134bhp and will be one of the most efficient cars within its class. Mercedes claim fuel economy figures of around 70mpg while only producing 100g/km of CO2 emissions. Mercedes will also offer a 2.1-litre diesel engine which offers 168bhp or 201bhp and a 1.6-litre petrol turbo with 123bhp or 154bhp could be offered.
The B-Class prices will start at £15,000 and will increase to £20,000 for the more luxurious B-Class versions when it goes on sale in spring 2012.
