Overgrown trees, bushes, hedges and long grass at junctions are a danger to road users, according to the AA Motoring Trust.
The trust said local highway authorities are not maintaining roadside hedges well enough and road signs are being obscured. It said this poses a danger to road users and could also render traffic laws unenforceable, particularly if speed-limit signs or cameras are hidden.
‘Clear road signage is not only a legal requirement, but also essential for safety, route guidance and the effective enforcement of road traffic law,’ said Paul Watters of the AA Motoring Trust.
‘It is a nonsense for enforcement to take place when the legally required signs are invisible to drivers,’ he added.
The trust wants motorists to e-mail examples of overgrown road signs to its website. Find out more at www.aatrust.com.
