Audi will make a new Allroad Quattro, which is likely to go on sale by the middle of next year.

The 4x4 will closely resemble the concept version unveiled at this year's Detroit Motor Show (pictured). Audi decided to put the car into production after strong customer demand for the current Allroad.

The new car, based on the latest version of the A6, will again feature permanent four-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension, which allows the car's ground clearance to be altered.

Further details have not been released but engine options are likely to include a V6 diesel and V8 petrol.

Joining the new Allroad in 2006 will be the Q7, Audi's first large 4x4. The seven-seater is based on the same all-wheel-drive components as the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg, but it is longer than both cars to incorporate three rows of seats.

The Q7 is believed to be the first in a new range of Audi off-roaders, with the possibility of a smaller Q5 arriving in the next few years. Q7 prices are likely to start at around £32,000 when it goes on sale in early 2006.
