The new five-door A3 Sportback will cost from £16,010 when sales start this August – that’s £500 more than equivalent three-door cars.
The range starts with a 100bhp 1.6-litre petrol model and is topped by the £24,625 3.2-litre Quattro.
Specification levels are the same as those for three-door A3s, so all will get alloy wheels, remote central locking, traction control, side and curtain airbags and electric front windows. Climate control and a CD player are fitted to all except the entry-level car.
Audi has yet to announce whether the Sportback will gain any extra features such as roof rails or cargo nets in the load bay.
By November, every engine and gearbox currently available in the three-door range will be offered in the Sportback, along with a new 200bhp 2.0-litre petrol that will eventually make it into the three-door.
This new engine, as well as the 3.2-litre V6 petrol and 138bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel, will be available with Audi’s Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), an automatically operated manual transmission that provides fast, smooth gearchanges.
