BMW has announced pricing and specification levels for some next-generation 5-series models along with an all-in servicing package.
Three models are available from launch on September 18 – the 520i SE at £25,455, the 530i SE at £30,955 and the £30,950 530d SE. The £26,955 525i SE and the range-topping £41,555 545i SE arrive in October. Standard and Sport models are expected to follow later.
All cars features a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, an automatic with the same number of ratios costing an extra £1350.
Standard equipment also includes climate control, part-electric front seats, CD player, alloy wheels, eight airbags, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, traction control and anti-lock brakes.
An improved version of the iDrive control system first seen on the 7-series is also standard across the range. The 530 models also feature parking distance sensors and metallic paint.
The optional Active Steering system, which reduces the number of turns at the wheel at slower speeds for easier parking and town driving, costs £810.
Other options include adaptive headlights, which swivel from side-to-side to help drivers see around corners, for £270 and the £1550 Dynamic Drive system which reduces body roll in corners.
A hi-tech head-up display which projects information onto the windscreen is available from March 2004.
For an extra £750 buyers can opt for Service and Maintenance Inclusive (SMI) which covers all servicing costs for five years/60,000 miles. Brake and clutch replacement is also included in the package which owners can take advantage of anywhere in the EU. BMW says SMI will be extended to other models in the range in the future.
