BMW's new 507bhp M5 saloon, which goes on sale in the UK next May, will have a likely price tag of £61,755.
BMW's new 507bhp M5 saloon, which goes on sale in the UK next May, is likely to cost £61,755.
Although this would make it 21% more expensive than its previous incarnation, the new M5 is 25% more powerful. Its 5.0-litre V10 can launch the car to 60mph in 4.7sec and to a restricted top speed of 155mph. Unrestricted, the new M5 would be able to reach 205mph.
A steering-wheel-mounted control allows drivers to switch between the maximum 507bhp and a toned-down 400bhp. UK cars will automatically default to the lower output, which is as much as the previous M5 ever had, every time the engine is started.
The closest rival to the BMW is the 500bhp Mercedes E55 AMG, which costs from £62,170 in saloon guise and £64,200 as an estate. Audi now only sells its RS6 as an estate for £66,675 with a 480bhp engine.
BMW says it will not offer a Touring version of the M5.
