Daewoo has denied suggestions that owner General Motors could relaunch the brand as Chevrolet in the UK.

The Financial Times today said that GM is considering the move to bring western European markets into line with the rest of the Continent, where Daewoo models wear the Chevrolet badge.

A spokesman for Daewoo in the UK said there were no plans to switch from the Korean to the American name.

The spokesman refuted suggestions that efforts to build up the Daewoo brand since the company went bust and was bought by GM in 2002 had failed, pointing to year-on-year sales which have increased by 62%.
