Dodge has confirmed that it will put its Caliber small family car into production and launch the car next July.
The Caliber might look like a small MPV or compact 4x4 but its dimensions put it at the top of the small family car sector against models such as the Golf Plus.
Dodge has also announced that a 132bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Volkswagen stable will be offered from the Caliber's launch, alongside 138bhp 1.8-litre, 148bhp 2.0-litre and 168bhp 2.4-litre petrol engines.
The manufacturer has promised that each of these cars will be priced to undercut similarly powered rivals.
A new continuously variable transmission provides drivers with the option of automatic gearshifts or the choice of manually selecting one of six pre-set ratios.
A four-wheel-drive system has been developed for the model but is currently only confirmed for the North American market. Like many of systems seen on the roads today, the all-wheel drive system automatically distributes pulling power between the Caliber's front and rear wheels depending on levels of grip.
