Prices for Toyota’s Land Cruiser 4x4 are set to increase by £645 in October, although specification and performance are also improved.

The previous entry-level LC2 model has been deleted from the range, making the LC3 the cheapest available.

It rises in price from £26,350 to £26,995 – making it £2600 more than the old LC2 – but uses an uprated version of the 3.0-litre diesel engine and gains cruise control as standard as well as leather detailing and wood inlays in the cabin.

The satellite navigation system fitted to LC5 models is updated to include traffic avoidance software, which aims to redirect drivers around jams.

Toyota’s uprated turbodiesel engine is now matched to new six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearboxes, and offers improved performance times. Fuel consumption is also improved: manual versions now return 31mpg on the combined cycle, up from 29.7mpg, while automatic versions are 4.2mpg more efficient at 31.4mpg.

Details on the 245bhp 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine have not yet been released, but Toyota reckons fuel consumption will improve. There’s no word yet on emissions, either, but all Land Cruisers are highly likely to stay in the maximum 35% tax band.

Final performance details will be announced closer to the arrival of the new models in showrooms.
