Saloon versions of the new Ford Focus go on sale next month for £50 more than the equivalent five-door hatchback.

Large Focus boot can now swallow two large suitcases or a set of golf clubs

Saloon versions of the new Ford Focus go on sale next month for £50 more than the equivalent five-door hatchback.

Entry-level engines and trims are not available on the saloon, so prices start at £14,970 for a 113bhp 1.6-litre petrol in Ghia trim. Buyers also have the option of Titanium specification and can choose from four other engines, including the 143bhp 1.8-litre petrol and 1.6-, 1.8- and 2.0-litre diesel engines offering between 108bhp and 134bhp.

The boot of the new saloon is bigger than before and offers a generous 526 litres of space – enough for two large suitcases. It is also wider than the previous-generation Focus saloon’s – wide enough, Ford says, for a set of golf clubs.

Visit Whatcar.com next week for a review of the new saloon.
