Subaru has hit back at the launch of the new Mitsubishi Evo IX by offering free power upgrades for its Impreza WRX and STi Type-UK models.
The dealer-fitted Prodrive Performance pack increases power from 222bhp to 261bhp on the WRX, giving it a 0-60mph time of just 4.8 seconds, and increases pulling force from 221lb ft to 257lb ft.
On the STi Type-UK, the free power upgrade takes it from 262bhp to 300bhp, helping the car to 60mph from standstill in just 4.6 seconds. Pulling power is increased by 46lb ft, to 299lb ft.
The Prodrive Performance packs, which include the reprogramming of the car’s on-board computer and the fitting of a free-flow exhaust system, are available to Impreza buyers until the end of July.
Subaru says the performance upgrades are worth £1600 on the WRX and £1995 on the STi, but list prices are unaffected by the offer.
The WRX saloon costs from £20,300, while the WRX STi Type-UK starts at £26,400.
