The new BMW 3 Series only goes on sale from tomorrow, March 12, but deals worth hundreds off the list price are available if you look hard enough.

Franchised showrooms aren’t offering any cash off the car yet, and the What Car? Target Price is still the same as the list price, but a handful of brokers are providing small savings.

You’ll have to wait 12 weeks for delivery, but Carfile (0870 833 2152 ) is cutting 3% off the range. That brings the £23,360 asking price of the 320d ES, our pick of the range, down to £22,659 – a saving of £701.

Drivethedeal.com is advertising the same car for £473 less than list price at £22,887, while Uknewcars.co.uk can manage £428 off.

With supply very limited initially, BMW showrooms are unlikely to start offering discounts for a good few months yet.

If you can’t wait or find these prices too high, the previous-generation 3 Series is still a highly competent contender. The arrival of the new model should help to soften used-car values a few percent over the course of this year and into 2006, so keep an eye on our online valuations.
