A lightweight version of Renault’s sporty 182 Clio is now on sale, tempting buyers with a 0-60mph time of less than seven seconds and a cheaper price.
The RenaultSport 182 Cup is 20kg lighter than the standard model and also £900 cheaper, with a list price of £13,800.
Although the 182bhp engine is unchanged, the lower weight means the Cup is 0.2 seconds faster to 60mph with a sprint time of 6.9 seconds.
Top speed, combined fuel consumption and emissions are unchanged over the standard 182 with figures of 139mph overall, 34.9mpg and a place in the 24% company car tax band.
Renault says lower, stiffer suspension and revised steering geometry make the Clio 182 Cup even more nimble.
The new 182 Cup is 10bhp more powerful than the previous incarnation of the sporty supermini but it isn’t as quick. Anti-lock brakes, manual air-conditioning, stability control and cruise control were all missing from the old 172 Cup but are fitted to the new model and add weight to the car.
