Hyundai will move control of its UK business to Germany with effect from July. The change means that Hyundai UK will be under the direct ownership of Hyundai Motor Europe, as opposed to its current position as an independent importer and distributor.
Owners of Hyundai cars should not be affected, though. The company’s famed five-year warranty on all new cars remains as before, and no dealerships are likely to close as a result of the change.
Indeed, Hyundai insists the move is designed to further increase its UK sales. The past year has been a good one for the Korean car maker, with a 17% increase in year-on-year sales in the UK. It now has a 1.5% market share overall.
A spokesman for Hyundai told Whatcar.com: ‘Hyundai wants to be a leading manufacturer in the UK market. With the direct support of Hyundai Europe we will be able to streamline distribution and marketing, and further develop the UK dealer network. At present there are 160 Hyundai dealers in the UK, and we would hope this figure may rise as a result of the change of ownership.’
