Jeep joins free servicing club

04 July 2003

Jeep is offering two years’ free servicing on new Grand Cherokees. The maintenance package is worth up to £606 on a diesel Grand Cherokee and £411 on petrol models.

The offer means Jeep has joined the growing number of manufacturers now offering free servicing or packages that cover all maintenance work for a one-off, up-front fee.

Daewoo offers three years’ free servicing on its cars, while Mini buyers can secure five years’ parts and labour for £100 through the TLC programme. Mini says virtually every buyer opts for the TLC package.

BMW and Audi have launched £500 servicing schemes on their 7-series and A8 luxury cars, while BMW will also introduce Service and Maintenance Inclusive (SMI) on the next-generation 5-series from September. The SMI package costs £750 and covers all maintenance for five years/60,000 miles, including clutch and brake replacement, and will eventually be offered across BMW’s line-up.

Diesel variants of BMW’s current 3-series and 5-series ranges are eligible for three years’ free servicing, while the Hyundai Getz carries a similar offer until the end of September.

Fixed costs for servicing have a great appeal considering the rising cost of labour and uncertainty over whether work carried out by non-franchised dealers might invalidate warranties.

However, BMW’s main rivals, Mercedes and Jaguar, say they have no plans to introduce their own one-payment servicing packages.
