Jeep will expand its 4x4 line-up with a new small model and a big seven-seater in the next few years.
It has already announced that an off-roader even larger than the Grand Cherokee is planned, and will soon make a formal announcement about it.
Jeep has now said that it will also introduce a small 4x4 to directly rival the likes of the Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V and Land Rover Freelander.
Top-level Jeep sources told Autocar magazine at last week’s New York Auto Show that it will closely resemble the Compass concept car, which was unveiled four years ago.
While the company already produces the rugged Freelander-sized Cherokee, the Compass-based model is said to place more emphasis on versatility than off-roading ability.
Prices are expected to start at around £15,000 for the small off-roader and upwards of £30,000 for its bigger seven-seat brother.
