Larger Sonata on the way

15 September 2004

Hyundai will launch an all-new Sonata to rival the Ford Mondeo early next year.

Bigger than ever, the new Sonata is almost as long as a Skoda Superb and promises to offer generous amounts of space in the cabin and boot.

Initially one new 2.4-litre petrol engine, which develops 164bhp, will power the car. A new 2.2-litre diesel is also on the way but will not be available until the end of 2005 at the earliest, and may not arrive until early in 2006. A 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine is also under consideration for the UK.

Equipment levels are expected to be high with air-conditioning, a CD player, electric windows and remote central locking all coming as standard.

Prices are yet to be confirmed but should start at around £15,000.
