BMW has announced the first details of its forthcoming range-topping M5 saloon.
The car is powered by a 5.0-litre V10 engine which generates 507bhp and 384 lb ft of pulling power.
Likely to cost around £55,000 when it goes on sale in the UK next spring, the M5 can bolt to 60mph in just 4.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155mph, but BMW reckons the car is capable of 205mph.
The M5 uses a seven-speed sequential gearbox which the manufacturer says is 20% faster than the split-second shifts achieved by the current Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG).
A new stability control system has been specifically designed for the car and offers three modes. Drivers can partially disengage the system or deactivate it completely.
Virtually the entire suspension system of the car has been changed to offer a sharper driving experience.
An MDrive switch on the steering wheel allows sportier suspension settings to be selected quickly. This setting can be tailored to driver’s personal tastes through the iDrive system.
Front and rear aprons, side sills, new door mirrors, wider wheelarches, four tailpipes and exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels distinguish the M5 from lesser models.
