Mazda has updated its 6 family car range.

New petrol-engined versions of the saloon, hatchback and estate car are in showrooms now, and the revised diesel models arrive later in the year.

• Prices rise by £200 and now start from £14,100 for a 1.8-litre petrol-engined hatchback in S specification and rise to £19,200 for a 2.0-litre diesel estate in TS2 trim.

• Mazda claims retuned suspension and a stiffer body provide shaper handling and more refinement.

• New cars have revised bumpers, grille, headlights and tail lights.

• Standard equipment across the range now includes a CD player and curtain airbags as well as front and side airbags, air-conditioning, alloy wheels, electric windows and remote central locking.

• A six-speed manual gearbox is now standard on all models bar the 1.8-litre petrol, while a new five-speed automatic is available as an option instead of the old four-speed design.

• Fuel economy is improved in most cases. The diesel returns up to 3.6mpg more on the combined cycle at 47.1mpg, while petrol models are up to 1.3mpg better.

• All but the 1.8-litre hatchback drop down one company car tax band.

• The higher-powered version of the 2.0-litre diesel engine now has 6bhp more shove at 141bhp and offers 266lb ft of pulling strength.
