There’s good news for buyers considering a Mazda 3, with the new Sakata special edition arriving in showrooms this week.

Based on the standard 1.6 S five-door hatchback, the Mazda 3 Sakata throws in £1100-worth of extra equipment for a list price that is just £245 higher, at £11,995.

The main benefit to buyers is the inclusion of air-conditioning as standard. On the outside, the Sakata is distinguished by a rear roof spoiler (as found on the Mazda 3 Sport) and 15-inch alloy wheels. The special edition is only available in Strato Blue metallic paint – a colour not offered on the standard range.

The Sakata is powered by the same 104bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine found in the other 1.6 models. Other similarities with the 1.6 S include CD player, four-speaker audio system, electric front windows and door mirrors, and remote central locking with deadlocks.

There will be a limited run of 750 Sakatas, which will be available throughout Mazda’s UK dealer network. Buyers choosing to finance a Sakata through the Mazda MultiOption personal contract purchase scheme, with a typical 9.9% APR, will be eligible for a £700 deposit contribution (until September 30). However, the Sakata is excluded from Mazda’s current offer of 0% APR hire purchase deals available on other 3 models.

With typical discounts of 5% available across the 3 range, we would expect buyers to be able to haggle a Target Price of around £11,395 for the Sakata.
