Mercedes is set to launch its most powerful M-Class off-roader yet, with the ML 63 AMG, which arrives in showrooms next year.

Developing 510bhp, the new off-roader uses a normally aspirated 6.3-litre V8 engine, which will be the second most powerful Mercedes engine available in a production car.
The 63 AMG will blast from rest to 60mph in 5.0sec and reach a limited top speed of 155mph.

To cope with the extra power, the permanent four-wheel-drive system has been strengthened, and a seven-speed automatic AMG gearbox has been fitted. Other features include a new version of the electronically controlled air-suspension system to improve road holding and ride comfort.

The ML 63 AMG is set apart by its 19-inch wheels, distinctive body kit and radiator grille and stainless steel running boards. The cabin features a luxury AMG nappa leather and Alcantara interior.

Prices have yet to be announced, but with the old 55 AMG model costing £51,690, we wouldn’t expect to see much change from £60,000.

The M-Class 63 AMG is designed to fight it out in the fields with the supercharged Range Rover and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, but due to its huge power advantage, it should outperform both on the road.
