BMW has announced prices for its all-new 3-series saloon which goes on sale in March, 2005.

Initially three petrol engines will be available, starting with the 148bhp 2.0-litre 320i which costs from £21,090 in base trim.

It takes 9.0 seconds to reach 60mph, tops 136mph and returns 38.2mpg on the combined cycle. No emissions figure has yet been released.

Just one diesel engine option is available in March, a 150bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel. This costs from £22,890, a whopping £1800 more than the equivalent petrol.

It makes 60mph in 8.3 seconds, can reach 140mph and returns 49.6mpg. Again, no company car tax band information is available.

Both of these engines are available in ES specification for an extra £470, or SE trim for £1500 more than base car prices.

Higher-powered petrol options on offer from March will only be available in SE specification. These include a new 2.5-litre developing 215bhp in the £25,155 325i and the same 255bhp 3.0-litre found in the 6-series in the £28,455 330i.
