This is the face of the new Porsche Boxster, which goes on sale in the UK on November 27.
Although very similar in size and appearance to the existing car, Porsche claims it is 80% new and significantly better to drive thanks to increases in power outputs and a sharper chassis.
Prices start at £32,320 for a 2.7-litre model, which develops 240bhp – 12bhp more than the existing £31,630 car. The £38,720 Boxster S still uses the 3.2-litre engine but offers 280bhp, 20bhp more than the current £38,330 variant can muster.
Both models are a slender 0.2sec faster to 60mph. The standard Boxster posts a time of 6.2sec and a top speed of 159mph – 2mph faster than the outgoing model. The S gets to 60mph in 5.5sec and its top speed increases by 3mph to 167mph.
A revised five-speed manual transmission with a shorter shift for quicker changes is fitted to the entry-level car, and the Boxster S gets a six-speed transmission as standard. Both can be equipped with a five-speed Tiptronic gearbox, which offers automatic shifts as well as the option of changes with steering-wheel-mounted paddles.
Porsche is also developing a coupe version of the Boxster, which will go on sale next year as a cut-price alternative to the 911.
