Volkswagen has hinted that a new large MPV model to replace the Sharan is on the way, but it is likely to be beaten to the market by the next Ford Galaxy.

Currently Ford, Seat and Volkswagen all jointly produce MPVs on the same platform. Volkswagen will stick with Seat and produce a model to go on sale in around 2007 or 2008. Seat is likely to launch its own version at the same time.

Ford, however, is going its own way and already working on a new Galaxy for 2006 or 2007. It will be built on the same base as the next-generation Mondeo family car, which arrives in 2007.
